The price for household gas is set to rise sharply in September, as the conflict in the Middle East weighs on family budgets in France
Life is about to get more expensive for around six million households in France, with the benchmark gas price set to rise 5.6 percent in September, the Commission de régulation de l’énergie has said.
In total, about 60 percent of residential gas customers will see their bills rise. Bills for households that have signed up for a fixed-price plan will not change.
September’s 5.6 percent increase follows a 7.4 percent rise in July in the benchmark price for gas (known as the prix repère de vente de gaz – PRVG) that has replaced regulated prices in France.
The regulator has insisted that this increase is “entirely due to rising gas prices on the markets”, driven by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
