Britain and Australia are stepping up cooperation on advanced radar technology, as the two countries deepen defence ties under the AUKUS security partnership.
A statement of intent between UK defence company QinetiQ and Australia’s CEA Technologies will bring governments and industry together on Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar systems, the British defence ministry said on Wednesday.
The agreement, signed during a visit to Canberra by Luke Pollard, Britain’s minister for defence readiness and industry, is meant to strengthen supply chains and open new export opportunities for both countries’ defence industries.
AESA is a radar technology that steers beams electronically rather than mechanically moving an antenna, allowing the radar to scan different directions rapidly and track multiple targets with high accuracy.
