Durham regional police’s union says the arrest of defence lawyer Sudine Riley for trespassing at the Oshawa courthouse in January — in which she alleges she was assaulted — was “justified,” with the union presenting a different version of events regarding the encounter.

The new statement comes on the heels of a decision by York Regional Police in late July to not criminally charge any of the Durham officers involved; the matter has since been referred to the Law Enforcement Complaints Agency to determine whether any of the officers committed professional misconduct.
