The 20th year of the FedEx Cup Playoffs is upon us as the PGA Tour heads to Memphis, Tenn., for the FedEx St. Jude Championship. This is the first of three tournaments that comprise the FedEx Cup Playoffs. After this week, the field will be trimmed to 50 contenders. (Note that Daniel Berger is not teeing it up at TPC Southwind due to a back injury.)The PGA Tour tweaked the points system for this year’s playoffs with fewer points available at St. Jude, so it will be difficult for players to play their way into position to stay alive.Harris English is a little more than 27 points behind Maverick McNealy for the 50th spot in playoffs and will need a big showing to be able to jump up the rankings. Sungjae Im is my favorite pick for jumping inside of the top 50. He sits 41.5 points outside of the top 50, has been playing well and has played well at this golf course in the past.Scottie Scheffler is the favorite coming into the event. He is a little less than 800 points clear of Matt Fitzpatrick for the lead in the playoffs. Scheffler finished second for the fifth time this season in his last start at the 3M Open while gaining strokes across the board. Scheffler has finished fourth and tied for third in his last two starts at TPC Southwind and gained over 8.6 strokes combined on approach in those starts. My model this week will be focusing on strokes gained on approach, strokes gained at TPC Southwind, driving accuracy, strokes gained around the green and strokes gained in no-cut events.Course informationCourse: TPC SouthwindLocation: Memphis, Tenn.Designer: Ron PritchardPar: 70Length: 7,288 yardsAverage green size: 4,500 sq. feetPast champions at TPC Southwind:
