According to Bloomberg, Tata Technologies, based in Pune, Maharashtra, will develop a platform for multiple vehicle models. The latter also reports that the architecture is designed to accommodate ICE, hybrid and all-electric powertrains. Neither company has so far confirmed the report, and Tata speaks of ‘a full vehicle development program with a leading Japanese automotive OEM,’ without specifically naming Honda at this point.
While people familiar with the matter did not specify the target markets for the models based on the Tata Technologies-engineered platform, India could be a likely candidate. Just last October, Honda named India its third-highest global priority for future growth, after North America and Japan, and announced plans to launch ten models in the country by 2030.
As mentioned above, neither Honda nor Tata Technologies has confirmed the reported partnership on a new car platform. However, recent statements from both companies are consistent with the possibility of such a collaboration. During Tata Technologies’ Q4 FY2026 earnings conference call on 4 May 2026, CEO and MD Warren Harris announced that the company had secured a deal for a full vehicle programme from a Japanese automotive OEM in April.
