Foreign residents' language skills are in the news again following a Munich cafe's social media post defending its staff for speaking English. We want to hear your experience of learning German and whether you think German is essential to live here.

One of the most difficult parts of moving to a foreign country is learning the language. So it's no wonder that it's one of the most talked about experiences among internationals in Germany.

But the topic of foreigners' language skills (or lack of them) is also a hot button issue in some parts of German society and in politics.

This week Munich cafe, Kanso Coffee Lab, went viral on Instagram for its post urging people to show respect to all of its staff, regardless of their German language skills.
