Miss Widdecombe died aged 78 on 8 July following a hammer attack at her home on Dartmoor. Joshua Kerry, 28, from South Yorkshire, was charged with her murder on 20 July. Buckfast Abbey described the former MP as a dedicated public servant of profound faith, while her family asked for the initial service to be kept private. A wider public memorial service for the politician and television personality will be held later this year.
