The spokesperson for the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Interior announced the ministry’s “positive stance” regarding the issuance of motorcycle licenses for women, stating that following the resolution of legal barriers and a review of jurisprudential views, no obstacles remain to granting these permits.

Speaking on the sidelines of a press conference, Ali Zeinivand stated: “The Ministry of Interior holds a positive view on this matter because legal obstacles have been removed and relevant religious rulings were consulted.” He added that while “sensitivities” previously surrounded women’s motorcycling, there are currently “neither religious nor legal barriers” to issuing licenses to women, noting that Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni is personally following up on the issue.

Parvin Dadandish, Advisor to the Minister and Head of the Center for Women and Family Affairs at the Ministry of Interior, similarly affirmed that no statutory prohibition exists against issuing motorcycle licenses to women, adding that the Traffic Police (Rahvar) are actively pursuing the matter.

Highlighting the Interior Minister’s emphasis on preventing social phenomena from escalating into security issues, Dadandish noted that women should be allowed to ride motorcycles in a regulated manner after completing legal procedures and obtaining licenses, ensuring that they are not disadvantaged in the event of accidents or encounters with law enforcement.
