Fresh allegations of child sexual abuse against a priest is shaking Lithuania’s Catholic Church. The decision by the prosecutors and church authorities to withhold the name of the suspect is adding fuel to the fire.
A priest who worked in the Archdiocese of Vilnius has been charged with committing sexual offenses against minors over a 23-year period, including rape, sexual abuse and providing alcohol to children, prosecutors said.
Eleven minors have been recognised as victims in the case, which has been referred to the Vilnius Regional Court. Prosecutors have filed 34 charges against the priest, including two counts of rape of a minor and one count involving the rape of a young child.
The alleged offenses took place between 2002 and 2025, when the victims were between 12 and 18 years old, according to prosecutors.
