Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran will step down from his role and not seek reappointment due to lack of unanimity from the board members on his continuation.

Chandrasekaran was appointed as the chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the $400-billion Tata Group, in February, 2017.

According to a statement from Chandrasekaran, his five-year tenure would end on February 20, 2027.

Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust had unanimously recommended an extension for another five years, and this resolution had been tabled in the Tata Sons board on February 24, 2026, he added.

“However, the proposal was not carried through because one of the board members did not support it, and in the absence of unanimous support, I chose to defer the decision,” Chandrasekaran noted in the statement.
