ANKARA — Turkiye's parliament on Monday approved a legal framework for the disarmament and reintegration of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, a landmark step toward ending a decades-long conflict.
Analysts have expressed cautious optimism over the legislation while warning that implementation would prove far more challenging than the vote itself.
The bill passed with 468 votes in favor and 88 against, with six abstentions after nearly 10 hours of parliamentary debate, highlighting the political sensitivity of the initiative.
"This is a turning point for Turkiye," Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus told reporters after the vote.
