All Blacks fullback Damian McKenzie scores in the corner during their tour match against the Sharks at Kingspark in Durban.

The second match of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry Tour will be remembered as much for the rain as the result, with the All Blacks eventually turning a brave Sharks opening into a 54-0 demolition at a sodden Kings Park.

The pre-match ceremony, however, belonged to Ma’a Nonu.

After the All Blacks had performed the haka, the former New Zealand great stepped forward from the Sharks ranks to deliver a Maori retort of his own. It was a stirring and much-loved moment, a reminder of the remarkable career that has seen the 42-year-old Nonu wear the black jersey of New Zealand and, now, the black and white of Durban.

Thankfully for Nonu, his solo performance was completed before another drop of rain fell on him.
