In Colombia, rescue workers and civilians have worked day and night, digging through concrete, to find survivors of the earthquake which lasted almost four long minutes and killed at least 200 people.
There are fears that hundreds more are still under the rubble.
The 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia around 7am yesterday morning. The village closest to the epicentre, San José del Palmar, is in the isolated region of Choco – where about a third of the population lives in poverty.
Major damage was reported in Cali, the country’s third-largest city and the cities of Pereira and Manizales, hubs of Colombia’s coffee-growing region were also badly hit.
