New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's pied-à-terre tax was halted Monday after a Staten Island judge issued a temporary restraining order pausing the rollout of the surcharge on high-value second homes.
Under the order issued by state judge Wayne Ozzi, the city's Department of Finance was required to pull a tax roll covering 960,000 residential properties from public view, and the court prohibited any further enforcement steps tied to warning notices that had already been sent to roughly 17,000 homeowners, according to the Wall Street Journal. No deadlines tied to those notices are to be enforced while the order stands.
