GM-Samsung Battery Partnership Expands
The companies will jointly develop next-generation prismatic battery cells for potential future electric vehicle applications.
Separately, Samsung SDI has acquired GM’s 49.99% stake in their SynergyCells joint venture plant in New Carlisle, Indiana, as the companies adjust their manufacturing plans amid slower-than-expected EV demand growth.
Samsung SDI and GM will co-develop prismatic battery cells designed for high energy density and fast-charging capability.
The agreement preserves their battery technology collaboration even as Samsung SDI takes full ownership of the Indiana plant.
