United States President Donald Trump was reportedly moved onto a smaller military aircraft during his journey from Turkey to Britain last month as security officials sought to protect him from an alleged Iranian assassination threat.
The previously undisclosed change in Trump’s travel arrangements was reported by The Washington Post and The New York Times on Tuesday, revealing that the president’s actual movements were concealed even as the White House maintained that he was travelling aboard the former Air Force One.
Trump had been in Ankara, Turkey, for a NATO summit attended by other world leaders before travelling to Britain.
Publicly, the White House said Trump departed Turkey on July 8 aboard the older Boeing 747 that had previously served as Air Force One. Trump had also announced on Truth Social that he intended to use the aircraft “for old time’s sake”, rather than the newer Boeing 747-8 aircraft donated by Qatar.
