Residents and motorists in Lagos State have staged a protest at the Lagos State House of Assembly, demanding an immediate review of what they described as “harsh” traffic laws and the removal of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes from bridges across the state.
The protesters, under the aegis of the Citizen Intervention for Collective Humanity & Care Initiative (CICHCI), said the BRT infrastructure on the Odoyalaro Bridge linking Maryland and Ojota has created severe traffic congestion and imposed additional hardship on road users.
Carrying placards with inscriptions including “Free Odoyalaro Bridge Now,” “Remove BRT From Odoyalaro Bridge Now!” and “It Is Not Enforcement; It Is Extortion!”, the protesters called on lawmakers to intervene in what they described as an unjust traffic regime.
