Samsung has picked up FDA clearance in the US for a new hearing aid feature available on Galaxy Buds.
The idea of using the microphones in earbuds for the sake of sound amplification is nothing particularly new, but Samsung is cranking it up a notch with new FDA clearance.
A pair of new features, “Hearing Test” and “Hearing Aid,” will allow users to get a boost in the sounds around them as needed. The self-administered test will pinpoint a user’s hearing deficits and tailor the hearing aid feature to those needs.
Samsung explains:
Based on those results, the Hearing Aid feature amplifies the sounds users have difficulty hearing — such as high frequencies, surrounding whispers and distant voices — personalized to each user’s hearing profile. Hearing Aid also supports additional advanced features typically found in premium hearing aids, such as noise elimination and beamforming, which help focus sounds in front of the user and suppress background noise.
