The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has warned of possible flash floods in 13 states between August 11 and 20, 2026.
NiMet issued the warning in an advisory posted on its X handle on Tuesday, listing 13 northern states.
The agency said the outlook was based on factors including forecast rainfall intensity, prevailing soil moisture conditions, drainage capacity, terrain and dam characteristics.
“It serves as an early warning and decision-support tool for proactive preparedness, emergency response planning, and disaster risk-reduction measures.
“States with High Flash Flood Risk: Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Adamawa, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Taraba, Cross River, Akwa Ibom,” the advisory read.
