A mass anti-drug pledge-taking ceremony for drug-free Tamil Nadu was held in Salem and Namakkal districts on Tuesday (August 11, 2026).Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated the State-level anti-drug pledge-taking ceremony in Chennai. Following this, in Namakkal, the ceremony was held at the Government Medical College Hospital in Namakkal. Collector L. Madhubalan presided over the function and administered the pledge. Speaking at the function, the Collector said that raids are being conducted in schools and colleges, and people selling gutkha have been identified. Last month alone, 3,000 kg of gutkha was seized in the district. Likewise, the Food Safety Department officials are also taking action on the received complaints.The Collector said drugs will not only affect the student, but also their families and friends. “If a friend is opting for drugs, students should alert their teachers or the police, where counselling would be provided for them through a psychiatrist,” he said, and added that the students are cooperating well to anti-drug initiatives.In the function, the Collector distributed appreciation certificates to the school and college students who performed well in creating awareness against drugs.Likewise, in Salem district, Collector K. Elambahavath administered the pledge to students and officials.
