Proteas coach Shukri Conrad is hoping the drop-in pitches currently being cultivated in South Africa will not be used for next year's World Cup.
Cricket SA has undergone the process of producing drop-in pitches for the major venues around the country over the past two years. The Wanderers, which will more than likely host the 2027 World Cup final, has already utilised a strip for a domestic One-Day Cup game that was cultivated adjacent to the playing area in a stainless steel tray before being dropped into the playing area.
According to reports from players, the ball "kept a bit low" from the Golf Course End, while Lions bowling coach Allan Donald claimed "it played really well".
Conrad admits he does not have much experience of drop-in surfaces, but believes their usage would negate any home advantage the Proteas may have.
