Ten police personnel and two civilians were killed during a fierce encounter between security operatives and a heavily armed group of suspected bandits in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The Kebbi State Police Command disclosed this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday by its spokesman, SP Bashir Usman, adding that at least 17 suspected bandits were also neutralised during the encounter.

The incident occurred at about 9:25 am on Monday along the Rafin Makuku axis, where security personnel intercepted the suspected bandits who were reportedly moving between Zamfara and Kebbi states.

Usman said the security personnel engaged the attackers in a gun battle, noting that the number of casualties among the bandits remained subject to further verification.

“Several of the attackers were neutralised, with at least 17 suspected bandits so far assessed to have been neutralised,” he said.
