My husband jokes that if I had any superpower in the world, it’d be a super sense of smell. I can take one sniff from my couch and tell you if my neighbor six houses down is lighting a fire. I swear I can even smell the sickness on my son’s breath the night before he wakes up, telling me his throat hurts. So imagine my horror when I caught a whiff of something truly abhorrent and realized it was, in fact, me. The good news, however, is that I found a solution that took care of the problem for under $20.I am quickly approaching my 40s with a vengeance. It feels like everything is happening all at once in my body, like puberty, except this time my pre-frontal cortex is developed enough to be hyper-conscious about it. And the smell I noticed wafting from my armpits was unlike anything I had ever experienced. I immediately went on a mission to figure out something that would help me be less self-conscious. Apparently, I am not alone in my suffering. According to previous HuffPost reporting, several factors can contribute to a drastic change in body odor as we age. This is especially true for women, because decreasing estrogen levels and hormonal shifts during menopause can affect your body odor. Thus began my expensive operation-get-Lauren-to-smell-better mission. My first course of action was to invest in two different brands of body powder. I washed and completely dried myself, and tapped it generously in all the places one reasonably could to make sure the scent was all-encompassing. It worked for a moment, but after an hour running errands, the scent was back. I thought maybe it was the brand and tried another, but I still stank.I then went on the literally painful journey of trying multiple aluminum-free deodorants. Secret, Native, and dozens more would work for a few days, and then I’d suddenly have a burning rash I couldn’t kick. I felt doomed. That was until I found Carpe, thanks to my incessant nightly doom-scrolling. The brand promise is not just a reduction in smell, which antiperspirants attack with “an aluminum salt that reacts with proteins in the sweat,” but they also promise a longer-lasting formula designed to last even longer than aluminum salt alone.Lauren Gordon/HuffPostThe Carpe antiperspirant.I was skeptical, but I thought, what have I got to lose? I selected the bergamot and oud scent on their site (which is currently unavailable, though there are nine to choose from, including fragrance-free). It cost me $19.95, which I thought was pretty steep for deodorant, but I was desperate and ordered anyway. It was worth every single penny. When I tell you that the strange smell immediately disappeared, I am not exaggerating. Hours later, still no stench. And when I went to take a shower roughly a full 24 hours later, you better believe I was still fresh as a daisy. I’ve been using Carpe for about three months now (the same stick, might I add), and that smell has never returned. I have spent entire days at the community pool, worked all day in the garden and would have been able to hug Harry Styles with 100% confidence. Even my husband is obsessed with it. I quite literally will never go back to any other deodorant ever again. If you’re unhappy with your current aroma, I cannot recommend giving this a try enough. I can’t say many products are life-changing, but this one certainly is. See what others shoppers had to say about Carpe’s hard-working deodorant: “For those who struggle with body odor, or finding the right deodorant. The stuff really works. I have a few people in my family who have notice the significant difference after using this deodorant. Fresh fragrance is not overbearing, no messy residue. Size of container is comparable to its competitors. Does not seem to leave a messy residue on clothing.” — Maegan T. “This is the best antiperspirant deodorant I’ve ever used in my life no exaggeration, it’s the only thing I’ve found that smells good and lasts as long as it says it does, i have sensitive armpits and other deodorant burns my armpits, this doesn’t do that at all, it smells amazing doesn’t irritate my skin one bit, goes on like a lotion and dries so quick!” — Michael Van Dyke “Worked from 7am to 5pm , still smelt good which I was surprised. Walked 9 holes from 6pm to 8:20pm, and surprisingly the smell was still strong. I guess the hype is real. Holds it smell really well , all day even after sweating like crazy” — Eddie Deleon “This is probably the best deodorant I’ve ever used. Despite hi gh humidity, high temperatures, and active days - no sweat… I was amazed. I’ve tried every kind of deodorant there is, including men’s, and this is amazing. I couldn’t believe how well it works. I bought some for my family also!” — Ladonna Knoth “FINALLY, a product that DOES WHAT IT SAYS!!! When it states no wetness, it’s the truth!!! I was working in my yard. It was so hot that when I came inside, my clothes were soaking wet. When I took off my shirt, my underarms were the only dry place on my body!!!” — Fauxpaintlady
