Significant flash flooding is underway from the Midwest to the central Appalachians and more drenching downpours are incoming.
Flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings were ongoing in the region early Tuesday. Multiple rounds of storms will fire up and track over these same areas over the next several days, raising the flood threat.

Flash flood emergency: Several water rescues were reported in Crooksville, Ohio, in Perry County, according to CNN affiliate WBNS. Videos on social media showed rescuers in rafts navigating powerful currents of water coursing through the streets. A rare flash flood emergency – the highest level of flash flood warning – was issued there early Tuesday after over 4 inches of rain fell in 12 hours.
Multiday threat: Flood watches have been issued for more 20 million people in the Ohio Valley and central Appalachians. Extreme rainfall rates from repeated storms could deliver more than a month’s worth of rain in hours. The storms also threaten to down trees and knock out power with potential hurricane-force wind gusts, especially from Illinois to Ohio and eastern Kentucky on Tuesday.
