Employment and Labour Minister Nomakhosazana Meth says the government is moving to tighten the rules around the hiring of migrant workers.
As tensions continue to grow over jobs and the employment of undocumented foreign nationals in South Africa, the government is moving to tighten the rules around the hiring of migrant workers.
Minister of Employment and Labour Nomakhosazana Meth has presented the Employment Services Amendment Bill to Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour.
The Bill seeks to put South African job seekers first, while ensuring that foreign nationals who are legally allowed to work in the country are protected from exploitation.
Under the proposed changes, employers would have to show that they have tried to recruit suitably qualified South Africans before employing foreign nationals.
