The death of 17-year-old St Stithians pupil Cameron Waldeck-Cooks has sparked renewed concern over violence against women and girls, as her family, friends, school community and women’s rights organisations mourn a life cut tragically short.
Cameron was found dead at a lodge in Sabie, Mpumalanga, on August 3, alongside 19-year-old former St Stithians pupil Ethan Coetzee.
What initially began as an inquest has since been escalated to a murder investigation following preliminary findings into Cameron’s death.
The developments have prompted renewed calls for action against violence targeting women and girls, while those who knew Cameron have sought to remember her for the life she lived rather than the circumstances of her death.
