Mirae Asset Financial Services, the NBFC arm of the Mirae Asset Financial Group, has launched loan against equity shares held in CDSL demat account.The loan will be processed online through the Mirae Asset Financial Services website or mobile app.In 2022, the company launched a similar facility for investors with demat accounts in NSDL.Until now, customers with CDSL demat accounts looking for loan against shares had to go through a manual, paper-intensive process which takes 7-10 days.Customers can now apply online, select the shares they wish to pledge and authorise the request digitally, without visiting a branch or submitting physical paperwork.Once the pledge is approved by their Depository Participant, they can proceed with creating their loan account on the same day. CDSL has over 18.5 crore demat accounts, representing over 80 per cent of demat market.Customers can enter their 16-digit BOID (Beneficiary Owner Identification Number) to securely fetch shares available in their CDSL demat account and select the number of shares to be pledged. After verifying the request using an OTP, the pledge request will be sent to their DP for approval.Once approved by DP, the shares are pledged digitally and the customer can proceed with creating the loan account.Customers can avail loan from ₹25,000 to ₹1 crore against approved shares.The loan amount depends on the category of shares being pledged. Approved shares are classified into four categories based on factors such as market capitalisation and price volatility. Based on the applicable category, the loan-to-value ratio are fix between 45-30 per cent and interest of 10.25 per cent is levied on outstanding loan.
