Google has confirmed that it is about to switch off the ability to send emails via third-party accounts such as Yahoo, Outlook and Hotmail.This so-called "Send as" option has allowed users to easily post messages, via separate email accounts, directly from Gmail. But that will stop within the next few months.In fact, Google has set January 2027 as the end date for this function."In our ongoing commitment to ensuring Gmail remains secure, smart, and easy-to-use, we occasionally have the difficult choice to discontinue features that require disproportionate maintenance resources," Google explained."To that end, we are making changes to how Gmail handles third-party email accounts."You will no longer be able to send mail from third-party email accounts in Gmail on the web or in the Gmail mobile apps."That's not the only change on the horizon.Google also says it is ending support for the Gmailify service.This offers Gmail features such as spam protection and full inbox organisation via third-party email accounts."If you have a Yahoo, AOL, Outlook, Hotmail, or select non-Gmail accounts, use Gmailify to get many of Gmail's features with that address," Google explains.Sadly, this service will also stop working from January 2027.Here's a full timeline for the upcoming changes.Q3 2026“Send as” announcement and notice period begins.
