Families and small businesses are dealing with repeated power outages raising concerns about the reliability of electricity in Samoa with the latest disruptions earlier this week.
Sione Tupuola, 45, from Safata is a business owner and father of three children, the oldest in college said “the repeated outages make it difficult to operate a business. We hope the situation can be resolved and the power supply becomes more reliable.”
He explains to the Samoa Observer that the refrigeration and fans in his shop have stopped working due to the blackout.
Another Safata resident 33 year-old Litia Fa'amausili, a mother of two children still in primary school said “it is frustrating when the power goes off without warning, especially when families rely on electricity for cooking, work and other daily needs.”
Recent reports by the Samoa Observer have also highlighted the impact of power interruptions on communities and businesses, including concerns about disruptions and damage to electrical appliances during outages with various costs to small business and retailers amounting over $2,000 tala.
