E.B. MAGALONA, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines — Blue swimming crab prices have bounced back to P200 or more per kilo from as low as P150 following the town’s campaign to boost local consumption after the US export ban.
E.B. Magalona Vice Mayor Marvin Malacon said the price of blue crabs has started to recover following the local government’s campaign to encourage domestic consumption.
“The results have been very positive,” Malacon said on Sunday when the local government held the eat-all-you-can crab events at the E.B. Magalona covered court. Customers paid P300 for unlimited crabs.
Visitors consumed about 750 kilos of crabs worth an estimated P225,000, Malacon said. The volume was equivalent to about two to three days of catch for local fisherfolk.
