New Delhi: Rejecting the government's offer that the home minister will make a statement in the Lok Sabha on students' agitation and related issues if the Opposition restores peace in the House, the Opposition said their three conditions remain non-negotiable. The conditions are that home minister Amit Shah states in Parliament whether he ordered the pellet gun firing at agitating students, Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise for the "brutality" against students and make a statement on the donation theft at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.Also Read: Rahul Gandhi questions Amit Shah’s competence, targets PM Modi over Parliament absenceThe Opposition stand means little scope for ending the stalemate, further complicating the chances of clearing the Constitution (Amendment) Bill on delimitation in the remaining two effective working days of the session. "The question was never that Shah is going to come and give a speech on some general topics in Parliament. We are not interested in Shah's fantasy conversation. The question was always that Shah has to make it clear who authorised the shooting of our youngsters in Delhi. Pellet guns were fired, students were beaten with lathis with nails on them. He should come clean. Did he order it or did he not? If he ordered it, he is guilty of getting our children shot. And, if he didn't know about it happening, he's incompetent. Either way, he should go. This was the discussion," Lok Sabha's Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi said at a presser."Second, the prime minister must apologise for what has happened. And third is the issue of the Ram temple theft. People very close to the prime minister have stolen from the Ram Mandir. These are the three issues".Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said: "Our first demand is that the Union home minister come and tell why pellet guns, tear gas, lathi-charge were used on students. Modiji's trusted trustees committed theft in the Ram temple. The Opposition parties demanded that the PM himself reveal details about this. Our third demand is that the PM apologise to the public on these two issues."Also Read: Government offer of Shah's statement on student protests fails to end Parliament deadlockGandhi said the PM and home minister didn't have the courage to come to Parliament and stand before the Opposition and the latest government offer was an attempt at damage control.Responding to a question, he condemned the police action against the agitating students in JMM-Congress ruled Jharkhand. "The use of force against students protesting in Jharkhand is wrong. Students have a right to peaceful protest and only dialogue can yield a solution."SP chief Akhilesh Yadav separately told journalists, "Since day one, the Opposition wanted a statement from the home minister on the students' issue. But the government was not ready for it. Two days are left (for the session to end), the government still has time to discuss both (fund misappropriation at Ram temple and student) issues... It is a question of the faith of crores of people. Who will answer for this?"Feelers on FCRA BillMeanwhile, the Opposition MPs in the Lok Sabha received feelers, enquiring whether the ruling side agreeing to refer the contentious Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment (FCRA) Bill, 2026, to a standing committee or a JPC would make the Opposition end the protest and proceed with the rest of the business, according to Opposition sources.The Congress side is learnt to have responded by insisting that the Centre should withdraw the bill. Sources said the feeler to a senior Congress MP came not from any minister but from a high authority involved in the efforts to end the stalemate. Opposition MPs feel the query would not have come without the knowledge of the ruling side. Meanwhile, Congress MP KC Venugopal wrote to Speaker Om Birla, urging him to exercise the powers vested in the Chair to direct Shah to come to the House and make a statement on the police action against the agitating students.
