Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has held a strategic meeting with the party’s governorship candidates in the South-West as the opposition party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, held on Sunday, brought together the party’s governorship candidates from states in the region, including Bimbo Adekanmbi of Oyo State, Laja Adeoye of Lagos State, Rotimi Babajide of Ogun State and the party’s candidate in Osun State.
“The discussions focused on strengthening the party’s structures, coordinating grassroots mobilisation and developing strategies to expand the APM’s electoral presence across the South-West,” a source who was part of the meeting said.
The meeting is part of efforts by the party to consolidate its support base in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo states and position the region as a major electoral base for the APM in 2027.
Makinde emerged as the APM’s presidential candidate after winning the party’s presidential primary in Ibadan. In his acceptance speech, he pledged to restore hope, rebuild public confidence and pursue practical reforms in critical sectors of the economy, including oil and gas and agriculture.
