Nollywood powerhouse Funke Akindele officially unveiled her next cinematic production, “The Four,” slated for theatrical release on December 11, 2026. The highly anticipated announcement comes as the Nigerian box office experiences an unprecedented, record-breaking streak, with Akindele’s latest venture poised to push the year’s historic performance to even greater heights.

Commercial Track Record and Revenue Performance

The release follows Akindele’s sustained commercial dominance, having surpassed the billion-naira benchmark for three consecutive years. Her 2025 blockbuster, “Behind the Scenes,” recently crossed the N2 billion threshold, following the massive success of 2024’s “Everybody Loves Jenifa” (N1.88 billion) and 2023’s “A Tribe Called Judah” (N1.4 billion).

Akindele enters a market experiencing its strongest financial year to date. In May 2026, “Call of My Life” set a high benchmark for local productions by grossing over N837 million. Other notable 2026 performers include actor Timini Egbuson’s “Love and New Notes,” which broke the record for highest single-day gross upon its February release and earned over N400 million, alongside actress Iyabo Ojo’s “The Return of Arinzo,” which grossed N347 million.
