Sony Pictures Networks India is sharply focusing on strengthening its regional play in the country and said it will be in “investment mode” for its regional business which it expects to become a “profit engine” in the next few years. The broadcast network is gearing up to launch its Tamil channel later this year and a Telugu channel is also on the cards next year.SPNI saw a strong FY26 as it recorded consolidated total income of ₹7,064.08 crore, up 9.4 per cent y-o-y, and consolidated net profit of ₹556.10 crore, up 15.6 per cent.Responding to a query on the future growth outlook, Gaurav Banerjee, Managing Director & CEO, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) said, “India is growing at a fast clip and therefore middle class and its purchasing power is also growing. We have seen it all over the world including in India in the last decade and a half, that as purchasing power goes up, consumers spend more time on high-quality content and therefore the overall economic framework is very much in our favour.“I remain confident that we will continue to see growth in television. We have been seeing growth in digital in a very big way and it will continue to drive tremendous growth for the company. We also expect to see growth in our regional business. So, we will be in investment mode on our regional business for the next couple of years. But after that, we see that also becoming a profit engine for us,” he added.The broadcaster expects to see robust growth across advertising and subscriptions revenue streams including digital subscriptions.Ahead of the festival season, SPNI on Monday also announced its content slate across entertainment and sports. This includes a show marking the entertainment debut of ace cricketer Rohit Sharma while Ajay Devgn will host true-crime series Crime Patrol 2026. Meanwhile, as part of its multilingual expansion, it said that Madhuri Dixit will host Kon Honar Crorepati, the Marathi edition of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). For Tamil audiences, the company announced Sony LIV will present MasterChef Tamil, featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Tamil Idol with A.R. Rahman.Banerjee noted that the company is focusing on building a wider and more diversified content portfolio across Marathi, Bangla, Tamil and Telugu.Talking about the changing dynamics of the television business, Banerjee said, “We need to expand the definition of television. It cannot just mean pay television. It must also mean free television as well as connected television.”The company’s upcoming sports content slate includes the India tour of Sri Lanka, Women’s T20 Asia Cup, Asian Games, and India’s all-format tour of New Zealand.Published on August 10, 2026
