Wockhardt has launched the Wockhardt Antibiotic Academy, an open scientific learning platform aimed at strengthening clinical dialogue and evidence-based management of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in India.The academy aims to facilitate continuous medical education through the exchange of knowledge, scientific discussions, and the sharing of real-world clinical experience among healthcare professionals, Wockhardt founder chairman Habil Khorakiwala said.Nearly 10 lakh patients die annually in India from multidrug-resistant infections, underscoring the need for improved antimicrobial stewardship.The company will facilitate interactions among clinicians, infectious disease experts, scientific societies, hospitals and policymakers.Khorakiwala said the platform seeks to promote the right antibiotic for the right patient at the right time.“There is an urgent need not only to have a new antibiotic like Zaynich, but also to have a science-based platform that fosters constructive dialogue on antimicrobial resistance and its appropriate management. ...this academy will create a deeper understanding of the current realities of drug resistance and promote evidence-based solutions that enable clinicians to save patients' lives," Khorakiwala said.
