The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has recorded a sharp increase in its gross merchandise value (GMV) to over ₹1.55 lakh crore from ₹422 crore a decade ago, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday.
More than 12.28 lakh micro and small enterprises (MSEs), including over 2.25 lakh led by women and over 42,000 start-ups are registered on the portal, demonstrating that empowerment was happening at the grassroot level, the Minister said in a post on social media platform ’X’.
“Over the last ten years, the platform has enhanced competition, improved price discovery, reduced procurement cycle times, generated significant savings for the government and strengthened accountability through end-to-end digital procurement,” Goyal said.
Make in India
It has made government markets more accessible to MSEs, start-ups, women entrepreneurs, self help groups, artisans and weavers, while championing the vision of ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Make in India’, the Minister noted.
