The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Visakhapatnam, arrested a Superintendent of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) stationed in Ibrahimpatnam, Vijayawada, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe.

According to a press release from the CBI, a case was registered on Monday (August 10, 2026) following a complaint from the proprietor of M/s. Tapaswi Rice Mill, located in Chandragudem, Mylavaram. The complainant alleged that the accused official demanded a total bribe of ₹1.5 lakh to refrain from issuing a demand notice regarding a tax liability and to close the matter.

Acting on the complaint, a CBI trap was laid on Monday, during which the officer was caught red-handed while accepting an initial instalment of ₹50,000. The tainted money was recovered from the spot during the trap proceedings.

Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were initiated at the residential and official premises of the accused in Vijayawada. The official was placed under arrest and is scheduled to be produced before the competent court in Vijayawada on Tuesday (August 11). Further investigation into the case is underway.
