Fars News Agency reports that electricity to the complex belonging to the Wrestling Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran has been cut off due to a 22-billion-toman debt owed to the power utility sector.
Fars claimed that, following inquiries with state power company Tavanir, it obtained documents showing that the federation, headed by state-aligned official Alireza Dabir, has accumulated 22 billion tomans in unpaid bills.
The Wrestling Federation, however, declared that this debt belongs to Azadi Stadium and asserted that it will not pay a single rial toward the amount.
Despite this assertion, the Ministry of Energy stated that Alireza Dabir visited Tavanir last week to request a one-week extension to settle the unpaid balance. With the deadline having expired and the debt remaining unpaid, Tavanir cut power to the federation’s facility.
While the Wrestling Federation and the Ministry of Energy offer conflicting accounts regarding financial responsibility for the bill, Fars confirmed that the power disconnection was carried out directly due to the outstanding 22-billion-toman debt.
