The Agartala Land Port is among the 11 latest ports allowing entry of foreigners holding an E-Visa (Photo: Land Ports Authority of India).The government notified 11 more international ports on Monday to enable foreign nationals holding e-Visas to enter India, taking the total number of such ports to 88.According to the ministry of home affairs, the newly notified ports include nine land ports and two airports. With the addition, the 88 international ports comprise 37 airports, 38 seaports and 13 land ports.The newly added land ports are Agartala, Darranga, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Dawki, Moreh and Attari (Road). The two newly added airports, Bhopal and Tirupati, have also been notified for e-Visa entry.As per the government, the addition of 11 ports would further enhance the attractiveness and utility of the electronic visa facility. It added that approximately 95% of e-Visa applications are provided within 72 hours.The e-Visa facility, with Electronic Travel Authorisation, was introduced in 2014 for nationals of 43 countries and is currently available to nationals of 172 countries.According to the government, the initiative is aimed at liberalising, streamlining and simplifying the visa regime to facilitate legitimate foreign travellers while simultaneously strengthening technological infrastructure for internal security.The e-Visa is currently available under 17 sub-categories, including tourist and mountaineering visas.
