A 6.6 magnitude earthquake has struck the Pacific province of Choco in western Colombia, leaving people injured and buildings damaged in a tremor felt as far away as Venezuela and the capital, Bogota.Addressing the situation on social media platform X, governor Nubia Carolina Cordoba-Curi stated: "We have just experienced a major earthquake in the department of Choco. We are concerned about aftershocks. “Although the epicenter was near San Jose del Palmar, there are injuries and significant damage to buildings in the capital, Quibdo. We are already carrying out a damage assessment and will issue the first official report shortly,"According to Colombia's National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), the quake occurred at 7:34am at a depth of 79 km, with officials liaising alongside regional authorities to assess the full extent of the impact.More to follow...
