The city police have seized drugs worth ₹55.80 crore and arrested 39 drug peddlers, including eight foreign nationals, 21 people from other states, and 10 locals, as part of a special crackdown against narcotics.The operation was carried out across several police station limits in the city. The police said the accused were procuring banned drugs at low prices from foreign, inter-state, and unidentified suppliers and selling them at higher prices to the public, including college students.According to Bengaluru City Commissioner of Police Seemant Kumar Singh, the seized narcotics included 21.641 kg of MDMA, 738 g of cocaine, 4.493 kg of hydroponic weed, 184.625 kg of weed, 1.065 kg of opium, 25 g of mephedrone, along with 22 mobile phones and five two-wheelers. Police also seized ₹17 lakh in cash from the accused.The 39 accused were produced before courts on different dates and remanded in judicial custody, the Police Commissioner said, adding that the police are continuing efforts to trace the unidentified persons who allegedly supplied drugs to the accused.Prominent casesThe Girinagar police arrested a French national, Demba Jouma Francis, and seized 4.378 kg of MDMA, valued at around ₹10.36 crore, the police said. According to the police, the accused had established contact with African drug suppliers in Delhi, procured drugs at a low price, and transported them to Bengaluru. He was allegedly staying in a rented house at Shivakote in Yelahanka and selling the drugs. Similarly, the Amruthahalli police seized 14.436 kg of MDMA, valued at approximately ₹28.88 crore, and have taken up further investigation.In a similar operation, the Anti-Narcotics Wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested four persons, including foreign nationals, in connection with three cases and seized drugs worth approximately ₹8.88 crore. The seizure included 738 g of cocaine, 336 g of MDMA, and 82.305 kg of ganja, alongside two two-wheelers and three mobile phones. In another operation, Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) police seized 4.278 kg of hydro ganja, valued at around ₹3 crore, in three cases.The Yeshwanthpur police seized 650 g of MDMA and 41.446 kg of ganja, valued at approximately ₹1.71 crore, in two cases.
