The Tamil Nadu government will pay a bonus for the procurement of paddy and an incentive for sugarcane to procured by sugarcane mills .Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay announced special incentives for paddy and sugarcane farmers. He made a suo motu statement in the Assembly on Monday under Rule No. 110 regarding the State Government’s incentive for paddy and sugarcane.Farmers devote their entire body, material and soul to cultivating, harvesting and selling paddy and sugarcane. Although the financial position of Tamil Nadu is currently not good, considering the need to protect the welfare of the farmers who cultivate paddy and sugarcane, we have decided to increase the state government’s incentive amount for paddy and sugarcane to an unprecedented level in the history of Tamil Nadu.As the paddy procurement season is set to begin on September 1 along with the minimum support price, the state government’s incentive will be increased to ₹289 per quintal for fine variety paddy and ₹159 per quintal for common variety paddy, with fine variety paddy being provided at ₹2,750 and common variety paddy at ₹2,600, he said.This is the first time in history that the State government has increased the subsidy amount for paddy by more than ₹156 in a single year, he said.Similarly, the Union Government has fixed ₹3,290.50 per tonne for farmers who register with sugar mills and supply sugarcane during the 2025-26 sugarcane milling season. In addition to that, the Tamil Nadu Government will provide a special incentive of ₹709.50 per tonne. Through this, farmers will get ₹4,000 per tonne as sugarcane price.special incentiveWhile the special incentive for sugarcane was increased by only ₹156 in the last five years, it has now been increased by ₹360.50 in the first year itself. This is the first time in history that the State government has provided more than ₹134 per tonne as a special incentive for sugarcane in a year, he said.“Our government will never abandon the farmers and will always stand shoulder to shoulder with them to support them in the success of agriculture and rural livelihoods,” he said.Published on August 10, 2026
