Fans aren't pleased with comments from Take-Two CEO on the recent marketing deal between Rockstar and Netlix.11:51, 10 Aug 2026Updated 11:51, 10 Aug 2026Last week, Rockstar Games announced that the next trailer for GTA 6 will arrive in the form of an ‘Extended Look’ on August 27, which will premier first on Netflix. The video will have a six-hour exclusivity window with the streamer before going live on the rest of Rockstar’s social channels later in the day. However, despite the GTA 6 Extended Look becoming free to watch a mere few hours after its initial release on Netflix, some fans are less than pleased that they’re essentially being asked to pay to view marketing material if they want to watch it as soon as it becomes available.READ MORE: Overwatch Season 4 start time, new hero and moreREAD MORE: Beast of Reincarnation patch notes today for version 1.0.7 on PCDespite the backlash, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has doubled down on the decision, with one particular quote given in an IGN interview that’s riled up fans even further.“I think Rockstar felt that a Netflix release would be a great way to show off the extended trailer,” Zelnick explained in the interview with IGN. “Six hours later it will be available on Rockstar's YouTube channel and I think ultimately on many other outlets, and I think this is an example of Rockstar trying new things and marketing the title and I hope there's much more to come.”If this collaboration with Netflix is a success, it certainly sounds like something we could see other publishers explore further. That wasn’t the part of Zelnick’s response that fans have taken issue with, though. Later in the interview, Zelnick hints that Take-Two knows just how powerful the pull of GTA 6 is, and that regardless of whether the next trailer for the game is behind a paywall or not, they know fans will pay hand over fist to see it anyway.“As you'd imagine, I'm only going to say great things about Netflix,” Zelnick says. “If you're not a Netflix subscriber, you definitely should be one. And as for the trailer itself, it's coming soon enough that I'll let you arrive at your own conclusion. I'm sure you're going to watch it because everyone is.”It’s that last part that hasn’t come across well with fans. The comment section of IGN’s interview is filled with fans voicing their distaste, with one comment reading: “This is the epitome of the industry's mentality towards gamer outrage at the all-digital future. They all believe gamers will drop their rage when a game or two prompts the desire to buy an all-digital console.”Meanwhile, a second commenter adds: “I'd be more likely to cancel Netflix than subscribe to it because of this.” A third writes: “If the guy in charge really thinks this little of his consumer base, if GTA turns into overpriced Call of Duty drivel, what's the point?”Article continues belowHowever, one other commenter argues that this practice isn’t all that different from when game reveals used to appear in paid magazines. “I remember paying for a subscription to Game Informer or other magazines to get exclusive reveals back in the good ol days. Same difference. At least it will be available later down the line on the same day nonetheless,” one gamer writes. Will you be subscribing to Netflix to watch the GTA 6 Extended Look on August 27?
