Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, setting a new career high for the director.
The Universal Pictures release added $31.5 million domestically in its fourth weekend, bringing its worldwide total to $1.1 billion.
The Homeric epic is Nolan’s first film to surpass $1 billion since 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” It is now his highest-grossing film ever, without adjusting for inflation, overtaking “The Dark Knight Rises,” which earned $1.08 billion, and 2008’s “The Dark Knight,” which grossed $1 billion. “Oppenheimer” finished at $975 million.
IMAX has been a major contributor to the film’s success. “The Odyssey” has earned $147.3 million domestically on IMAX screens, making it the format’s highest-grossing domestic release of all time.
