Security was increased across Ranchi as JPSC-JSSC aspirants planned a Vidhan Sabha MarchRANCHI: Security was stepped up across Ranchi on Sunday ahead of a proposed Vidhan Sabha March by JPSC-JSSC aspirants, with prohibitory orders imposed around the assembly premises as the students' protest against alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations entered its 16th day.The Jharkhand Police has deployed additional personnel and put barricades at key locations across the city, while the administration appealed to students to maintain peace and discipline during Monday's march.The protest has also drawn a political response, with BJP leader Amar Bauri alleging that the party's state president Aditya Sahu had been placed under house arrest.Bauri, who is also the BJP's state general secretary, said the government would "not be able to achieve success by deploying security personnel outside Sahu's residence".ADG (Headquarters) Manoj Kaushik said all necessary security arrangements were being made in view of the proposed picketing at the state assembly."In view of the possibility of unrest during the students' proposed march to the state assembly, the police administration has been put on alert," Kaushik said.He urged students participating in the march to protest in a "peaceful and disciplined" manner, noting that they had maintained discipline during the agitation over the past two weeks."It is their responsibility to ensure that anti-social elements and troublemakers are prevented from joining the march," the ADG said.Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan said maintaining law and order during the march was the responsibility of everyone."We do not want a blot on the career of any student due to disruption of law and order. Barricades have been put in place at major points with the deployment of adequate police force across the city," the SSP said.A prohibitory order has already been imposed within a 750-metre radius of the Vidhan Sabha building from August 6 to 12. The order will remain in force from 6 am to 10 pm on these days, Ranjan said.A similar order was imposed in Jamshedpur from Sunday midnight in view of the protest march planned in Ranchi, according to an official statement.The Ranchi district administration also appealed to the protesting students to refrain from aggressive demonstrations and cautioned them against violence and other illegal activities during the march to the assembly.Meanwhile, protesters alleged that hundreds of students travelling to Ranchi from different parts of Jharkhand were being forcibly stopped by police.The students' agitation entered its 16th day on Sunday, with six protesters continuing their hunger strike over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.(With PTI inputs)
