If you only watch highlights of Warriors games, chances are you won’t see too much of Kurt Capewell.

In a sporting world that’s quickly shifting to games being packaged into 30-second clips, the 33-year-old is the classic no-nonsense player, happy to roll his sleeves up and do the dirty work

Earlier this year, commentary around the Warriors’ back-to-back defeats to the Wests Tigers and the Cronulla Sharks seemed to centre on Luke Metcalf being played at five-eighth instead of halfback. Coincidence or otherwise, both of those defeats also saw Capewell missing with a calf injury.

It was fitting, then, that Capewell’s milestone of 50 games for the club slotted quietly into the background of the Warriors’ 28-12 victory over the Penrith Panthers on Friday.

While headlines – rightly – centred on Metcalf’s return, Capewell’s efforts on the night shouldn’t be overlooked. Aside from assisting the first of Metcalf’s two tries, Capewell managed 101 running metres, 41 of them post-contact, to go with 32 tackles.
