Reservation apps are competing to sign up restaurants, hoping to lock tables exclusively for their users, Heather Haddon and Adam Chandler of The Wall Street Journal reports. Membership clubs are appearing for people willing to pay extra to secure tables while credit-card companies, such as Visa (V) and Chase (JPM), are paying restaurants for blocks of early seats to then offer as a perk for their cardholders. Additionally, delivery apps are joining the fray, with Uber Eats (UBER) partnering with OpenTable and DoorDash (DASH) buying SevenRooms for $1.2B last year.
