Muscat: The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) has issued safety guidance on what to do if a fire or explosion occurs at a nearby chemical facility.The authority advises residents to: Move away immediately from the incident site.Avoid approaching smoke or chemical vapours.Follow evacuation instructions issued by the relevant authorities.Report the incident through the emergency number 9999.Familiarise themselves in advance with emergency exits and evacuation routes.Remain calm and follow designated evacuation routes.Do not use elevators during a fire.Do not return to the affected area until receiving an official clearance.The guidance also highlights the role of the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority in responding to reports, assessing risks, fighting fires, handling hazardous materials, conducting rescue and evacuation operations, securing affected sites and coordinating with relevant authorities.The public is urged to follow official safety instructions and report any smoke, fire or unusual signs without delay, while avoiding the circulation of unverified information.CDAA stressed that rapid response and compliance with safety instructions can help protect lives and property.
