Due to heavy rain that lashed the city on Sunday afternoon, Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s helicopter, which was to land at the Chennai airport, was diverted to the Air Force Station at Tambaram.Mr. Shah was scheduled to arrive from Puducherry at Chennai airport by an Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter at 3.26 p.m., according to a statement from Airports Authority of India (AAI). However, the helicopter could not land at the airport due to adverse weather, and the helicopter with Mr. Shah on board and another were diverted to the Air Force Station.The police informed AAI that Mr. Shah would reach Chennai airport by road. He departed for New Delhi from the airport by an IAF aircraft at 4.54 p.m.“Despite the diversion of the helicopters, subsequent road movement and departure from Chennai Airport were carried out smoothly,” a statement said.
