Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio once said that the key to making better decisions in investing, business and everyday life isn't intelligence or experience alone—it's developing a clear set of personal principles.
Ray Dalio Says Principles Help You Make Better Decisions In a post on X last month, Dalio encouraged people to build decision-making frameworks grounded in reality rather than reacting emotionally to every challenge.
"Most importantly, you need to have principles that deal with reality," Dalio wrote.
"Embrace reality, deal with it, and have those core principles." Expanding on the idea in an accompanying video, Dalio said people should think through specific situations they are likely to encounter rather than relying on broad philosophies.
He suggested writing down practical "recipes" for handling difficult scenarios, such as dealing with workplace dishonesty or navigating challenging business relationships.
